Supplemental School Year Information

Dear Parent/Guardian,
The state legislature and Governor Andy Beshear recently passed legislation that allows all students (K-12) the opportunity to participate in a supplemental school year, a replacement year for the 2020-2021 school year.
This supplemental year would basically be a do over for any student at Lewis County High School that wishes to participate. This would be very similar to a normal year where the school and/or parent could request that a student be retained in the same grade.
If you wish to have your child participate in a supplemental year (be retained in the same grade), please fill out the attached form and return in person to the front desk at school by 3:00pm Friday, April 30. The law states that request SHALL be submitted by May 1, 2021 in writing if choosing to participate in the supplemental year.
We are still receiving revised guidance from the Kentucky Department of Education, Kentucky High School Athletic Association and Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education.  If you are interested at all in having your child participate in the supplemental year it is recommended that you fill out the attached request and submit it in the manner described above.  You can still withdraw from the supplemental year program all the way up to the first day of school next year.
As in previous years students who fail to receive the required number of credits and/or meet promotion requirements will still be retained.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 606-796-2823.

In you are interested, please fill out the form below and return it to your child's school by May 1, 2021.
