Veteran’s Day Ceremony 2021

On Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 9:00 am, the Lewis County High School will be holding our 23rd annual Veterans Day Ceremony. Our ceremony is one of the most important public gatherings that LCHS holds. The JROTC cadets will conduct the ceremony, call veterans, greet them in, honor the nation’s flag with a color guard, and do the fallen soldiers table ceremony. The cadets do a lot of planning and organizing for this event to honor our veterans. This ceremony takes months of preparation, hours of planning, practicing, and getting everything squared away.

Veterans Day is a celebration for all the soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who survived conflicts the United States have been involved in. This Veterans Day we are going to center our attention on our Vietnam Veterans. There are seventy-nine Vietnam Veterans in Lewis County, only sixty-seven of them are still with us today.

Our presentation of the colors is to show our respect to the freedom that we have been given. It shows that we respect those who went and fought for us, it shows that we are thankful that we don’t have to face the problems that more unfortunate countries face. We practice the color guard for hours at a time, to ensure we honor the colors correctly and respectfully.

The Fallen Soldiers Table Ceremony is a place where we salute the ones who are no longer with us.  We honor our Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard Veterans.  We do this to show respect and honor to our fallen soldiers

The Veterans Day Ceremony will be held in the Lewis County High School’s auditorium. Due to covid, we are going to take every precaution available, so we can keep everyone safe and healthy. We are asking that only veterans, their families, the JROTC cadets, and the guest speakers be in the auditorium during the ceremony. Masks will be required throughout the high school.

Every year our Veterans Day ceremony contains a remembrance video in honor of all Lewis County veterans. The remembrance video allows all members of the community to view pictures of those who were in the service, and for how long they served. This video commemorates those who have served both living and deceased. The remembrance of veterans of Lewis County is very important to us and we feel it should be expressed with everyone in the community.

We are asking everyone who knows a veteran from Lewis County to turn in photos for our remembrance video. Physical or digital photos are accepted to be turned at the LCHS Library by October 29th, 2021. For anyone interested in viewing our ceremony and does not want to attend in person for any reason, there will be a live presentation on the Lewis County High School website. We encourage you to join us to celebrate this Veterans Day with us.
